Joe's House Projects
We've heard from a number of folks out there who have homes or apartments that they would like to share with traveling patients and families. While coordinating this type of effort is not part of our model, we are always looking for lodging options. Joe's House does not have the capacity to investigate and match indivdual homes, however there are organizations that do. One is HOSTS for HOSPITALS, which works out of the Philadelphia area. HOSTS for HOSTPITALS has about 300 host-families that have provided almost 1,450 patient-families a combined total of more than 41,500 nights of lodging, Mike Aichenbaum is the Executive Director and they are working on expanding their program to other areas. - We've just added some new cities!
- Milwaukee: Healthcare facilities there are: Columbia St. Mary's, Froedtert Hospital at the Medical College of Wisconsin,and Children's Hospital.
- East Texas: Cities include Beaumont, Lufkin, Nacogdoches, College Station, Tyler and Texarkana.
- With so many places to stay on the site, we start our renewal project in the fall and it runs into the new year.
