Joe's House Newsletter

Winter 2009

Website Update

Be on the lookout for a whole new Joe's House website! www.joeshouse.org  will have a new look and feel but more importantly we'll have increased functionality for lodging, donors and correspondence. Not only will we be better able to manage our large database of lodging and healthcare facilities better - it will also provide the ability to link more effectively with our cancer and cancer advocacy partners.

Thank you David for all of yoru hard work and continued support throughout the years!

More patients and families helped

Let's hear from some of the folks that we have helped.

Joe, who was referred to Joe's House from the GIST (Gastrointestinal Stromal Turmor) organization, needed a place to stay in Portland, OR. He saide "I'm very thankful to have found this site through GIST support international". And "...thanks for having this site it does help."

Tom and Vrginia needed help in Illinois. After receiving information from Joe's House they said "Thank you so much for your help it will definitely be to our advantage to use Best Western Inn in Moline, it is within 3 miles of the hospital."

Here is what Jennifer, an oncology social worker in Nebraska had to say in response to an email from Joe's House regarding finding lodging and financial assistance for one of her patients - "Thank you so much for your assistance this will be a great, great help!".

In the Pipeline

In 2009 we will continue to market Joe's House to as many cancer related organizations as possible.  Look for us at the Association of Oncology Social Work conference in Savannah, GA in early May.

Also, you'll find Joe's House visiting lots of our partners in order fo work out new ways to reach partients and family members.

Know of an organization that might want to work with Joe's House or have a great marketing idea?  Let us know at  info@joeshouse.org.

2008 - Annual Fund Drive

Thanks to all of you who so generously gave, our annual donation drive was a fantastic success. In times like these we know it's especially hard to choose among the many worthy causes that ask you for help, and we truly appreciate your continued support.

Every dollar that you donate to Joe's House helps cancer patients and their families. In 2008 we provided information, assistance and support to thousands of people through our website, toll free information line, and directory.

Thank you for your part in making this possible, every donation was a very big help! Special thanks go out to the following for their extraordinary contributions: Doug Smith and Katie Desmond and Mr. and Mrs. C.S. Radford, Jr. And thank you again to David Ulf, our wonderful website developer and master (see the following article), and to MaximumASP for hosting.

The eldest, Peggy, who remained with Mama in Tennessee, calls her siblings when their mother is hospitalized - nothing serous, she is ate some bad tuna, but the phone calls lead to sometimes comedic and sometimes brutal confrontations about the past and the present.
